...The pace here is hushed, off hand, and unhurried, with only Dave Gershen's "Carla" rising above mid tempo, but the laid-back atmosphere brings the focus in on the songs themselves which are well written, carefully condsidered and never-in-a-hurry-bits of personal wisdom. Sort of like J. J. Cale's work, only with the desert spareness and tension smoothed out a bit...Among the hightlights are Dave Gershen's "Cabaña Moon," and two songs by Jon Gershen - the title track and "Unfinished Business" - that benefit mightily from the organ playing of Dan McKinney, who also engineered the record.    ***½   Steve Leggett-AllMusic.com
...when you need to be listening to something that tweaks the corner of your mouth until it becomes a smile, as Bobby Charles' "Small Town Talk" could do, this will hit the spot. There is a lazy picking-with-pals-in-the-parlour feel to much of the material with everyone clicked into the same pace and keeping the spirit of the spontaneous session alive and kicking...I'll keep this and cherish it.     ****   Loudon Temple-Maverick
...Dave's more "country" and Jon's more "blues-rock-jazz" sensitivity give life to a simple and linear sound mix... the songs deal with love, women, the relationship with the past, and they do it with clarity of experience along with a touch of irony... there are ballads with delicate melodies enriched by marvelous guitar solos and the quality of the arrangements makes this album a special listening experience.     ***   Matteo Morelli-Rootshighway
...The voices of the Gershen brothers compliment each other well: they captivate with their frayed edges...full of nostalgic lyrics, yearning for the horizon, women and friendships from their past ("Smoke where there once was flame"). Through the years, they have been able to preserve their own sound of country rock, influenced by folk and blues. This CD is for music lovers who still revel in The Flying Buritto Brothers or the early works of Tom Petty and Bob Seger. From time to time, Jon Gershen ("Unfinished Business") even reminds one of Tony Joe White. Jon's song "I'd Rather Live In The Past" kind of sums up this interesting, accomplished, and technically perfect project.           ***½   Johanna Bodde-Real Roots Cafe
